ENFORCEMENT

Northern SWIFT

Sex Offender Cited at Pacific Grove Sting

Northern SWIFT staff joined forces with Department of Insurance and Monterey County District Attorney investigators for a two-day sting in Pacific Grove on May 6 and 7. After issuing an NTA to one unlicensed contractor from Santa Cruz, the team later learned that he was a registered sex offender. Although he is not presently on probation or parole, and his registration is current, his illegal bid to contract for work without a license underscores the risk involved in hiring unlicensed operators. Two other suspects had to call for a ride home after DA investigators confiscated their suspended drivers’ licenses.

Total stats for the two day operation:

Appointments Set: 23

NTAs Issued: 16

Arrests: 0

Nonlicensee Citations Issued: 1

Licensee Citations Issued: 0

Warnings: 4

JESF Sweep in Merced & Stanislaus Counties

A Northern SWIFT ER teamed up with an EDD investigator to sweep construction sites in Snelling, Merced County, and Turlock in Stanislaus County on May 9. The team investigated leads in the two cities, and also performed random sweeps of the region. Although there was no activity at the lead sites and most of the contractors interviewed were in compliance, the team reports that those they encountered expressed gratitude that state government was showing an active presence and deterring unlicensed activity in the area.
